Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two: The Official Playscript of the Original West End Production

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two: The Official Playscript of the Original West End Production Summary

The official playscript of the original West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

The playscript for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally released as a 'special rehearsal edition' alongside the opening of Jack Thorne's play in London's West End in summer 2016. Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, the play opened to rapturous reviews from theatregoers and critics alike, while the official playscript became an immediate global bestseller.

This definitive and final playscript updates the 'special rehearsal edition' with the conclusive and final dialogue from the play, which has subtly changed since its rehearsals, as well as a conversation piece between director John Tiffany and writer Jack Thorne, who share stories and insights about reading playscripts. This edition also includes useful background information including the Potter family tree and a timeline of events from the Wizarding World prior to the beginning of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Book Reviews

l frikin love Harry Potter

Love it5 star

I have always been obsessed with Harry Potter and was really sad when I finished Deathly Hallows and I really like this book because you can really feel the characters emotions. I have to say I first doubted the book because JK didn’t write it and even though it’s a screen play it is just as good as the other books. I also hope that jk can make a book version55

Not That Great - But Play Might Be Okay3 star

So . . . I’ve read all of the reviews about people hating Cursed Child, and then the few reviews where people actually enjoyed it. I totally get why so many of you guys don’t like the script - in my opinion, as well, it was dry, didn’t make much sense, and has Albus and Harry turning into total . . . well, jerks. It lacks the depth and magical feeling of the real Harry Potter books, and will never be truly accepted as canon by fans. I’m sure the writers had great ideas and meant well . . It’s just the plot and script that aren’t great. On the other hand, many people (including me) are judging off of the script only without watching the play. I’ve heard word that the play is pretty amazing, so maybe what sounds ridiculous in script format somehow becomes believable on the stage. I wish I’d gotten to see the play - maybe it would make my feelings toward Cursed Child more bearable, even positive. However, in conclusion, if you are looking for a masterpiece script that hosts all the originality and magic of the seven famous HP books, I’m sorry to say you might be a little disappointed.35

Can’t Wait To See In Person5 star

Without dropping any spoilers, I found myself feeling the emotions of many of the characters, imagining myself in their shoes, and not wanting to stop reading because of the cliffhangers.55

Puts all HP books to SHAME😡😤1 star

So I read the book, not the ebook, but I can comment here so lol hi, anyway this is a piece of trash! Like 1. They whole Delphi thing, like, I thought Voldemort loved no one! 2. Why all the time turners? Like screws it up SO much! 3. Is nothing like HP 1/7, no mystery whatsoever. 4. There is like no passion in the script, it’s like it’s forced. And I don’t like how Draco marries someone random, not like Pansy or someone we KNOW for Hp!? Very sad. Not worth the buy. I like how Draco is nicer tho! But it does say ‘based on an original story by JK Rowling’ Lies if you ask me. Any way the script seems like trash fanfic. Please just write your own fanfic, that’s what I did!15

To people calling it nothing like the original Harry Potter books they are right but keep in mind that Plays are the dialogue and can’t really explain the set. Personally I love the fact that its a Play and makes it so fun to read. 10/10 recommend45

Lied to myself to let myself down1 star

I don’t know what time is this when I did another HP reread marathon, but at the peak of my emotions and excitement when finishing the 7th, I purchased this book. I tried to find myself all the reasons to ignore other critical reviews, like how the two writers are so passionate and meant well or JKR helped out too. But I do not even know how to describe the heavy sink in my heart and my struggle to turn to the next page. Please don’t buy.15
